For parents and teachers of young children, the month of June offers an array of fresh produce to introduce to your children. Many kids shy away from unknown foods (especially vegetables that may not have a texture that appeals to them.) Some kids like cooked fruits and vegetables, but not raw ones. Other children must have their fruits and vegetables raw and…”not mushy!” It takes a little “trial and error” to find out how your children like to eat various foods, but the journey itself can be FUN and enjoyable for everyone with a little preparation!
We like this new app for iphone and ipad for kids from Kids Food Adventure. The app allows parents and kids to read about different foods on a seasonal or monthly basis. As kids try the new food, the app allows them to “rate” the new food and receive stickers for their “tasting” journey. Some of the foods were new to our own “adult” taste buds! It is a fun app to try together with your children. Searching through a local farmer’s market or grocery for the different foods can be a learning experience, too!
Our many thanks to Kids Food Adventures for the following excerpt and the introduction to their app for kids!
Eating fruits and vegetables at their peak means enjoying them when they are super tasty! Introduce kids to new foods when they are in season. The chances of strawberries getting a “yummy” rating in June are pretty high! Eating foods in season also teaches kids a lot about the foods they eat, how and where they grow.
Kids Food Adventure app for iPhone and iPad is designed to make learning about healthy foods fun. Colorful photos of each food help kids identify and recognize new foods. Seasonal monthly food suggestions pinpoint the ideal time to try new foods. Fun facts, health benefits, and useful information on cooking, buying and preparing each food are written in a parent/kid-friendly manner. Color-coded stars help kids track their progress and rate the foods they’ve tasted. Reward stickers encourage kids to give new foods a try!
Taste, Learn, Be Healthy! Foods come in all shapes, sizes, flavors and textures. There’s a lot for kids and parents to explore on Kids Food Adventure! Give the app a try and become a follower and fan on: Twitter & Facebook!
