Print the template above and have the children cut out the scoops of ice cream and the cones (younger children will need assistance.) On the cones, write any number(s) that the children are working on or have the children stamp/write their own numbers. Have the children glue the appropriate number of scoops on top of the cone. Extension: Have the children use the different colored scoops to make patterns on top of each cone.
Paper Towel Roll Telescopes
Recycle used paper towel rolls! Take an empty cardboard tube, cover with any paper, and let the children be creative with lots of different materials for decorations. Take the children outside and let them use their “telescopes” to observe different kinds of birds and nature in general.
Try using the telescopes on an Outdoor Scavenger Hunt:
Create a checklist or picture list of items for kids to find. They can cross off or circle the objects when they find them. You could easily take a walk around your neighborhood or school to try to find different items. Some items you could include on your scavenger hunt include:
Flowers, grass, pine cone, berries, rock, specific color cars, bicycle, kite, a piece of trash, something to be recycled, squirrel, bird, fire hydrant, playground/park, acorn, feather, etc.
You could also do this indoors if the weather is not cooperating! Just change up the items students could look to find!
Enjoy the time to PLAY and LEARN with your kids!
