The Powerpoint show to the tune “5 Little Ducks” can be used with any of the activities below:
5 Little Heart Play Dough Mats – 5 Little Hearts Play Dough Mat
Material needed:  Red commercial or homemade Play Dough – recipe below, small heart cookie cutters (or the children can mold with their fingers), and one 5 Little Hearts Play Dough Mat (linked above) for each child.
Have the children count all the hearts in each of the rows.   Let the children make hearts to place on each heart pattern in the first row.  After making five hearts, have the children remove 1 heart from the mat.  Count how many hearts remain after removing one.  Repeat for the rest of the rows on the mat.  Play the powerpoint show above for the children.
Homemade Play Dough Recipe
1 cup flour (all-purpose)
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp. cream of tarter
1 cup water
1 1/2 Tbls. vegetable oil
Red food coloring or strawberry Koolaid to tint the dough (if desired)
5 Little Hearts Counting – 5 Little Hearts Counting Page for Preschool and Kindergarten
Print the 5 Little Hearts Counting Page for each of your students.  Have the children count all the hearts in each row, and then count only the ones without the X.  For younger children, use small heart stickers as counters and have them remove one counter from each row.  For older children, have them attempt to do “mental” math without the aid of counters.  Complete the page by reading the text to your children and have them write or stamp the number on the line.
Our children love the 5 Little Heart’s Activities, we hope yours do too!  For more heart, friendship, and Valentine’s Activities, see the Valentine Theme here on the blog!
