Below are ideas from the ALL THINGS WIKKI download available at The Preschool Toolbox Blog. All pdf files and instructions for learning games are included in the download. Summer fun at your fingertips!
Fishing with Wikki Stix –
Materials needed: Fishing with Wikki.pdf for each child (see download for the pdf) , assorted Wikki Stix©, assorted foam or plastic letters, bingo dot markers (regular markers or pencils will work, too).
Have each child twist 2 Wikki Stix© together and then form a “hook” at the top to resemble a fishing pole (kind of like a candy cane.)
Mix foam letters and pool in the center of a table. Have the children use their Wikki Stix© fishing pole to drag a letter back to them. The children then need to locate the letter on their worksheet and use a bingo dot marker (or circle with a pencil or marker) to mark off the same letter. There are 3 worksheets to choose from: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numbers 1-19.
Wikki Stix Number/Dot Matching Game –
Materials needed: Assorted Wikki Stix©, construction paper or foam boards, circle stickers.
Cut the foam boards or the construction paper in half. On one half page, make a Wikki Stix© number.
On the other half page, use the circle stickers to put the same number of dots. Make number/dot pages for any numbers the children are working on. For younger children, use smaller numbers and allow the children to “draw” over the numbers with their fingers. The texture of the Wikki Stix© allows for tactile reception and enhanced learning. For older children, use larger numbers and see if they can visually count the number of dots to find matching pairs.
Wikki Stix Counting Trees: Instructions below for pdf file included with the WIKKI STIX THEMATIC UNIT. *see all themes and resources
Materials needed: One Wikki_Stix_Counting_Trees.pdf for each child (see link above), red and orange Wikki Stix©, safety scissors.
Pre-cut the red and orange Wikki Stix© into several 1 or 2 inch sections. Older children can cut independently, but younger children may need assistance. Have the children place the red (apples) or orange (oranges) Wikki Stix© on the trees to correspond to the number in the box. Younger children can roll or “squeeze” the 1 inch Wikki Stix© pieces for the fruit. Older children can use the 2 inch pieces to make spirals for the fruit. The trees are numbered 1-10. Two trees are left blank to use with higher numbers for older children.
The Wikki Stix© won’t dry out! Save the pieces to use with other activities or to repeat this activity as larger numbers are introduced.
Download the entire unit for FUN summer learning and PLAY! Enjoy!
